Playing god

Just watched an episode of Horizon called Playing God, from 2008 I think, where computer scientists explain to the presenter (Adam Rutherford) among other things how technologies are changing and how scientists are now able to develop diesel from yeast, or silk stronger than Kevlar from a mixture of spider and goat milk proteins, if I understood well.
The organisation and the functioning of proteins is so well known that programs are developed which allow the mix and match of numerous proteins components to create something completely different.

Technologies are changing.
The question is what will the collateral damages be?
When one plays god.......
